JOB Hunting in Japan
My company will not be renewing my contract ….
you can imagine the panic i felt at that moment … still do feel terrified while writing this ..
NOW begins the JOB HUNT !
HOW do i find a job in japan ?
Understand the Job Market
“Research industries that are hiring include technology, engineering, education, and hospitality.
Understand the demand for foreign workers in specific fields.”
And that is what my friend "Chat GPT" advised me. I am very well aware that job recruitment is very different, if you are in university the job hunt and interview can start as early as the start of senior year in Japan. yes while you’re preparing for the exams you also have to start job hunting … terrible I know...
yet I am not in university now that’s a bit of a disadvantage. In Japan companies target either fresh graduates ‘ sound creepy .. they want fresh meat ..” or senior experience...
I am neither .. most of us are neither...another big disadvantage.
Prepare Your Resume and Cover Letter
“Tailor your resume (CV) to Japanese standards. Include personal information, education, work experience, and skills.
Write a cover letter that emphasizes your interest in the company and your relevant experience.”
done …
Dose that mean i can get a job now .. not so fast .. T.T
I decided to stick with what I know and focus my search on the industries where I have experience…
tourism, customer service, and education ..
haha … yeah I worked in all these and I have at least 3 to 5 years experience in each .. don’t ask how old I am .. how rude!
and I jumped in here how I did it...
Use Job Search Websites
I did not discriminate i hunted every single platform I knew of :
GaijinPot
Jobs in Japan
Indeed Japan
LinkedIn
Career cross
Craigslist “Yes even this one ..”
Now let me give you what I noticed after using these platforms nonstop for the last few weeks " and I mean nonstop .. "
gaijin pot https://gaijinpot.com/
Pro: - many famous companies especially target foreigners present their job offers on this site.
- very easy to navigate and user friendly, you have your resume already sent with a click of a button
Con: - dominated by these ALT dispatch companies, if you're not in the criteria to become an ALT it is an eyesore... “I am not if you can't tell .. "
- everybody is on it .. the competition is fierce.. every time I see how many application I am against make me cry some more...
Jobs in Japan https://jobsinjapan.com/
Pro: - Same as the previous one the only difference it has an option for a video interview system, which can make it easier for the company when selecting people. Making it easier on the recruiter means a bigger chance of getting the job!
Con: - Still prioritize English nationalist, nothing against you guys, I am simply jealous..
Indeed Japan https://jp.indeed.com/
Pro: - A bigger pool! most of the companies will list on indeed, it seems quite popular in the job market!

ehm .. what I mean is, it is quite important to show your profile on likedin.
Con: - You’re up against pro-level job seekers .. let’s stay positive shall we..
Career cross https://www.careercross.com/
Pro: - It presents an interesting filtering system down to the clothing required by the companies!
Con: - The complicated process of applying, some companies only require the standard information .. some want my blood type and how many hair on my head i have .. “exaggerating “
Craigslist. https://tokyo.craigslist.org/
Pro: - It has very interesting job offers, perfect for part-time seekers or small gigs on the side
Con: - Do i even need to explain .. the shady side of Craigslist makes it very scary .. please go with caution
